Why Artificial intelligence should be controled...
With the rise of technology worldwide, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming a common phenomenon. Most manual works done by human beings and animals (like an ox) are now done by Machinery and robots. The computerization of tools and the development of software to do manual paperwork are also growing at a rapid speed. The post-millennial believe that they will work together with robots (Meskó, Hetényi, & Győrffy, 2018). Always the human being is working to make the work easier for themselves and make the world more comfortable. The adoption of Artificial Intelligence comes with numerous advantages as well as several disadvantages too.
Advantages of Using Artificial Intelligence
Using Artificial Intelligence makes work easier for humankind. Initially, the manual jobs in farms, industries, and construction were done manually by men or animals. These works involved lifting, pulling or pushing, curing, and holding considerably heavy objects like Machinery, heavy working tools/equipment, construction materials like stones, and cement bags. Nowadays, these works can be done using robots and computerized equipment hence relieving the human being from the heavy tasks.
The usage of Artificial Intelligence also makes works fast. Machines and robots work can't be work at a significantly higher rate and speed as compared to that of human beings or animals. Artificial Intelligence has been applied in various fields, including computer networking technology, which improves the overall effectiveness of computer function and brings about the output desired by a human being (Shen, 2021). Living the natural Intelligence is subject to getting tired, fatigue, getting bored, falling sick, or simply being lazy slow in work. On the other hand, Artificial Intelligence works tirelessly, for long hours, without getting bored or developing fatigue. Although just the same way Natural Intelligence is subject to falling sick, Artificial Intelligence is also subject to mechanical damage/faults which need repair and rectification. But the human being quickly tackles the flaws and ensures that work continues quickly. Spare parts for repairing a robot's arm that develops mechanical problems are available, but it's infrequent to find a spare part for a human hand that gets cut off in the workplace.
Artificial Intelligence is more accurate than Natural Intelligence. Natural Intelligence can make errors that Artificial Intelligence rarely makes. Artificial Intelligence has an excellent capacity for detecting errors in building energy systems (Zhao et al., 2019). Computerized equipment, therefore, is known for accurate calculation, huge memory of storing data, where it will be retrieved when needed, and high processing speed than that of the human brain. Artificial Intelligence is more accurate than Natural Intelligence, and I preferred where complicated functions and calculations are involved. In a context where a large amount of information needs to be stored, Artificial Intelligence is preferred over Natural Intelligence. It is easier and fast to retrieve data stored in a computer than to ask someone to remember it. A laptop will give you the information as it was kept, but they would have forgotten some details as for the human being.
Artificial Intelligence can work in an environment that is not conducive for Natural Intelligence. Artificial Intelligence can work well in a dusty, noisy, and less ventilated environment, which is not healthy for Natural Intelligence, with risks of developing respiratory-related infections and losing hearing ability. Artificial Intelligence can also be exposed to harsh lights, but if such happens to Natural Intelligence, they are subjected to the risks of losing sight.
In some cases, Artificial Intelligence is more economical than Natural Intelligence. Various healthcare organizations have demonstrated that Artificial Intelligence has improved access to care and reduced costs (Meskó, Hetényi, & Győrffy, 2018). Purchasing and maintaining machines and robot is, in some cases, cheaper than paying salaries and wages. The Machinery may need only one person to operate it and hence reducing labor requirements.
Disadvantages of Artificial Intelligence
Increased usage of Artificial Intelligence results in reduced use of Natural Intelligence. This means diminished demand for labor which is a crucial reason for increased unemployment (Maduravoyal, 2018). The amount of work that a robot or machine can do in a day requires many men. And with the use of Artificial Intelligence proving to be faster, more accurate, more accessible, and cheaper than using Natural Intelligence, it is obvious that most people will choose Artificial Intelligence over natural Intelligence.
Artificial Intelligence needs skilled personnel to handle, which means somebody must go through training and possess some skills to qualify to work with Artificial Intelligence (Maduravoyal, 2018). This makes even the few jobs remaining in the job market more and more competitive as time goes on. While this may pose an advantage to the few individuals who manage to become proficient in working with Artificial Intelligence, it is a disadvantage to the larger population that doesn't tend to gain such skills.
Artificial Intelligence harms human health. Without Artificial Intelligence, men would do manual works which needs energy and strength. It was a double benefit affair because it kept people fit to earn a living out of their work. With computerized equipment that requires less energy to control and operate, the human being engages in light tasks that don't need as much energy as the manual tasks they used to undertake before adopting Machinery and robots. This results in men gaining uncontrollable weight and developing health complications that result from that. These complications include; high levels of cholesterol, higher blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity. To control this, people are nowadays opting for doing exercise in gyms which comes with a cost in terms of money and time. Being fit, which one would achieve by simply working, is now costing somebody to subscribe to a gym in the hood and attending the sessions daily. The money paid to the gym is worth investment, and the time spent there could be spent in other more productive activities.
The use of energy and fuels in Machinery, computers, robots, and computerized equipment is run by either electrical energy or energy from fossil fuels (Kaab et al., 2019). Much as electric energy is more environmentally friendly than fossil fuels, the increased demand for energy brings stress to the existing energy sources, such as Hydro-Electric Power generation points, geothermal, windmills, and solar. As for fossil fuels, they are known to be environmentally unfriendly. They contribute significantly to the emission of greenhouse gasses responsible for Ozone layer depletion, leading to global warming. Some gasses emitted from fossil fuels are responsible for acid rain, which is harmful to human health. Reason Why Usage of Artificial Intelligence Should be Slowed- down
Reason Why Usage of Artificial Intelligence Should be Slowed- down
Comparing the advantages and disadvantages discussed above, the usage of Artificial Intelligence is both beneficial and costly. Therefore it shouldn't be stopped entered but only slowed down. Humankind still needs to reap the benefit of Artificial Intelligence but still needs to retain some jobs, some manual work for men, conserve the environment and create room for employment of individuals who lack the expertise to handle Artificial Intelligence.
How Governments & Stakeholder Institutions Can Intervene
There are various measures governments, and other stakeholder institutions can put in place to handle this matter. First, there need to create awareness of the benefits and costs of adopting Artificial Intelligence. In this case, companies and firms will consider sustainably adopting Artificial Intelligence. This information can be passed to the target audience, i.e., the owners of major firms in the country in question, by writing to them or sending them emails. It's also essential to make the public aware of the matter. To reach the masses efficiently, these bodies can use mass media tools such as media houses (radio stations and TV channels), use printed media like newspapers, journals, the most consumed magazines, and burners. The use of social media in public awareness creation can't be underrated. Most public members use Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram daily, which can come up as one of the most instrumental methods of reaching the public. Using YouTube videos can also come in handy in this initiative. Lastly, awareness can be created using blogs, uploading them on the website of various related governmental bodies and other interested institutions, and using social media pages to pass more information on the controlled use of artificial Intelligence. Secondly, research is another introductory course of action. Research on the effects of Artificial Intelligence will help avail more information on the advantages and disadvantages of the same and therefore enable the stakeholders to formulate and implement policies and laws from an informed perspective. Research also provided information to the public and also helps in increasing awareness.
Restrictive policies and laws is another measure that can help in controlling the usage of Artificial Intelligence. The results of the research should play a significant role in designing these laws and policies. For instance, the use of Artificial Intelligence in a given country should be restricted to a certain percentage, depending on how it has affected the economy and the country in terms of loss of jobs and environmental effects. Authorities in charge can also regulate the source of energy consumed by various Artificial Intelligence tools. A policy governing the usage of fossil fuel-driven Machinery and equipment can help in reducing the environmental effects of Artificial Intelligence.
In conclusion, while Artificial Intelligence is beneficial, it needs to be adopted in a controlled manner due to the disadvantages and costs which come along with it. Various government agencies and institutions can efficiently tackle this matter with collaboration with other related stakeholders.
